Sight and vision, the distinction between ordinary and the extraordinary…As it turned out that day, a very thin line divides the two, yet under the meticulous lens of the microscope it proved an ageless case of far as North is from the South!
There is sight…more often than not, a universal level ground, then vision, characteristically a live blazing phenomenon behind the screen saver, seldom comprehensible at take one-two or three!
Knowledge alone, the ever inviting gateway to vanity in its myriad of sights; coupled with vision, the potent threshold to ultimate destiny.
Now for sure I would give absolutely anything to walk in the latter over the former. There exists an authoritatively credible reality way above the subtle crooked designs of the wittiest of hackers, in whose vocabulary the word shortcut exists not.A reality into whose heart a sole password reigns: Grace! It is a gift in its true essence! One of a kind!
There was something in the air that late sunny afternoon. My friend Joe and I were simply overwhelmed as we digested the incredible happenings of the previous seventy-two hours on the memorable trek. What an anticlimax to the most unparalleled account of our lives. We were both at a loss reconciling the apparent contradiction between strength and weakness. Our vanished hero had seemingly possessed both in great and equal measure. How could both have been what consisted of him? They seemed so immiscible!
We seemed desperate to verify his true identity. Our discussion took different perspectives yet in spite of it all we seemed to be interestingly generating more questions than answers. The hero seemed to have been aware of all what was going to happen to him and publicly highlighted the same on many occasions.
We were sad he was no more. That was the most painful spot. At some stage it seemed pointless we were engrossed in all these details. Bound in his trail,it had become an early morning daily routine walking to the city to catch the latest . What difference would it make? He seemed to have attracted too much controversy and drama for one lifetime, yet undeterred he appeared catapulted to a culmination only he could see!
Detail after detail, we rolled on, enthralled in discussion. Something about him wasn’t letting go. Not yet. In life and death, he was the never-fading enigma. The whirl of detail in the ensuing aftermath following his execution was beginning to radiate in a dazzling spectacle.
It was just after the 72nd hour and from all indications the plot was only getting thicker. There were unconfirmed eye-witness accounts the hero had incredibly swam to the safety after a victorious showdown in the dense shark infested waters from the deepest spot in the sea where the assassins had tossed him from a speedboat leaving him for the dead! The epitome of fiction!
You would probably have patience with one behind news but hardly any tolerance with one behind Breaking News, especially if your hero was involved. There wasn’t telling how this stranger joined us, but then he did. His entrance into the scene was so smooth none of our four eyebrows were elevated.
He connected so well with the discussion but seemed totally uninformed about this very hot news item that had dictated the headlines for over a week. How could there possibly have been someone within this vicinity with no information on what was clearly dominating the Meows of the cat? Bleating of the sheep and the Bray of the donkey?!
For a reason none of us could explain, we found ourselves competing to explain the mystery surrounding the death and aftermath of Alpha. He listened intently, that was before he made a fool of us telling us more than we knew!
“He’s gone,” Joe spoke in a low tone. “We hear he has overpowered the sharks and swam safely to the shore. The newsmen are calling him ‘The Super Snorkeler.’ Only time will tell.”
His breathtaking demonstration of The Blazing Trail in response, from the fore to the rear left our mouths agape! Our hearts melted strangely at his gentle voice! We were simply speechless. He even blasted us, describing us as myopic and gloomy, not to mention he was totally unapologetic for intruding in our conversation! Now that was hilarious! Too many strange things were happening in one day!
His exceptional sense of camouflage smelt of the secret service but for the things he was saying! He knew too much, including how to effectively stay undercover, yet had only whetted our appetites within the few minutes he had spoken. We wondered what our next course of action would be. Something about him got us really curious. We longed to hear some more. As we got to the turning that led to our home, he seemed headed past.
At our request he agreed to stay with us for the evening as darkness was already setting in. We were all looking forward to an amazing time when at dinner he suddenly pulled off the farewell-memory code! We watched in utter perplexity as the scales fell from our eyes and there before us sat Alpha the Majestic! Joe nearly hit the roof while I keeled over my seat in alarm. As we watched, he vanished in a flash…in thin air. It was a classic from the x-files only this time round real life! Real time!
It was Breaking News in the village! How could it be?! Head over heels Joe and I blazed the road back to the city. The thought of him appearing somewhere along frightened us so much we were accelerating by the second. It was safe for us being as far away from the village as possible lest he check in our dreams…who knew what he would be up to?!
We literary burst into the room where the octagon plus three were holed up. “It is true!” Panted Joe as he securely locked the door behind us,quickly reinforcing it with some five seats.
“He’s back! The snorkeler…he really swam!” The pale mystified faces looked at us like we had just parachuted in from outer space!
“What are you talking abbbb…” Before the spokesman could complete his question, a great radiance filled the room and one clothed in a robe reaching down his feet stood among us. He had a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like a blazing fire. He was clearly not in a panting mood!
Many of us believed we were standing face to face with a phantom but had to agree moments later phantoms did not eat fish! Alpha watched us, shocked at our evident skepticism. He gave us the amplified version of The Blazing Trail, this time round painting everything as it had been, was and would be.He was the central essence through it all, before it all-holding it together. We saw it so clearly now.It gave great light to our eyes. So it was true, everything, just as he had told us.
I guess we always had sight of it, now it was being presented to us in vision as a gift. It completed us. And there lay the big difference!
